ACQUISITION - LE MARS ART CENTER (2024)
While serving in the Marines, target acquisition was the detection and identification of the location of a target for military purposes. Now as an artist, I apply those same tactics when making my art and decided it was the next progression in my use of stripes … just circular. I always set goals (or targets) to reach with my art and conceptually these evolve over time. This series began just as a new way to approach stripes and now has manifested into process and product. This series literally being targets which all artists try to reach a “target” with their artwork has challenged my way of thinking about what art means, to what can art be made of. Each artwork has its own conceptual and symbolic meanings which the titles refer to and are military based. All of them represent however, my struggles as an artist to achieve an objective much like a shooter trying to hit a target. But with practice, perseverance, and a steady hand I eventually will hit the target.
